On October 22, 2024, Clean Energy and Tourmaline announced the opening of two new compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations in Calgary and Grande Prairie. These new locations, along with our Edmonton station which opened in April 2023, establish a crucial transportation corridor for trucking companies converting their fleets from diesel to CNG.
Powering long-haul trucks and other fleets with CNG results in lower emissions of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide and particulate matter compared to traditional diesel-powered vehicles. In just over a year, we’ve seen our customer base grow to nine market-leading companies that have already collectively displaced two million litres of diesel by utilizing CNG technology.

The Cummins X15N engine: power meets sustainability.
The Cummins X15N is the industry’s first 15-liter natural gas engine. Suitable for gross vehicle weights up to 115,000 pounds, with power ratings up to 500hp, torque up to 1850 lb-ft, and a 1000+ kilometer range, the X15N is designed to meet the needs of long-haul applications in Canada.
Mullen Group, one of North America’s largest logistics companies and the first to support the Clean Energy/ Tourmaline initiative, plans to leverage the new Cummins X15N engine as it increases its fleet of CNG-fueled trucks.

Our partnership.
The Clean Energy and Tourmaline partnership first began in 2023 when we announced our $70M joint development agreement to build a network of CNG stations throughout Western Canada. We held a media day and invited industry partners to share this exciting announcement with us.
